30 Photos of Warhol Being Warhol

Andy Warhol was one of the most prominent artists of the Pop Art movement and one of the most heavily documented entrepreneurs of his time. While most recognized for his iconic screen prints of Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Elvis Presley and a host of other recognized celebrities of the 1950’s-1980’s, Warhol also ventured into film and created Interview Magazine, which was in publication even today. The artist compulsively took pictures of his life and of the lives around him, giving us and incredible library of his life in images. The good, the bad and the intimate, Andy bore himself to the camera in ways most other artists were loathe to do, providing us a record of his life greater than any other artist in history.

HERE ARE 30 PICTURES OF WARHOL BEING WARHOL!

Photographs of Andy Warhol

Warhol loved being eccentric. He loved the idea of people talking about him. ““I am a deeply superficial person.” he once mused. While he was a lifelong introvert, he expressed himself in bold ways, often through his photography. On one hand, his photos are reveal silliness, campiness and freedom of a true artist. But, they also express who he was as on a more intimate level as well, embracing sides of himself he was not able to express early in his life. He saw himself both through the lens of a celebrity as well as a genteel and vulnerable collaborator. Where others proudly flaunt them, Andy wore his mental and physical scars quietly, reluctance behind his eyes when exposing his flaws. But, expose them he did as this was part of his reconciliation with himself, his life and the twists and turns he endured throughout.
