Belleza Serena by Jose Royo

One of the first exhibitions of it’s kind, “Expressions of Femininity and Form ” explores the transcendent beauty evident across the painted works of Jose Royo and Joan Beltran Bofill, and the sculptural representations of Richard MacDonald and Frederick Hart.

Influenced by the wake of movements such as Impressionism, and able to execute the traditional lyrical beauty that comes along only with the highest level of artistic skill, these figurative masters have translated classical principles of form into exquisite expressions of the elevated everyday. “Expressions of Femininity and Form” is a unique opportunity to view these artists’ work simultaneously in order to gain a broader perspective of the established figural masters of today.

A significant Spanish impressionist painter, Joan Beltran Bofill was influenced by the warm Mediterranean scenery of Majorca and scenes of the nearby ocean and rich landscapes can be found in many of his works. He continued to explore the effect of light in the Mediterranean in his compositions and dappled shadows and filtered light predominate is works. His strength in figurative painting with a focus on femininity and beauty make him a modern impressionist painter. He was inspired by the works of Goya, Bosch, Durer and Botticelli as well as travels to international locales such as London and Paris that played an important part in the artist’s oeuvre. To date, Bofill has had one-man exhibitions in several Spanish cities including Madrid, Valencia and Palma de Mallorca.

Jose Royo in the Studio

Jose Royo has become one of the premier painters of Spanish Impressionist art. He is known for mastering the classical beauty and softness of the female form with lithe figures oftentimes basking in the sun-speckled landscapes of the warm Spanish countryside. Jose Royo began to gained further notoriety in 1968 when his works were being exhibited in Madrid, Barcelona and prestigious galleries in Lisbon but it was the commissions to paint the royal portraits of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia that propelled the artists into being recognized as one of the great living Spanish artists today.Beginning in 1989 and continuing through today, Royo’s style has matured by the use of texture and layering as the artist pays homage to great masters such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Joaquin Sorolla. Bursts of color in floral landscapes exemplify the artist’s style and it has been said by critics that “If the artwork of Renoir were blended with that of the ‘Valencian painters’ you would arrive at the canvasses approaching the uniqueness of the impressive work of Royo.” The artist has mastered the mood and atmospheres of the subject matter with a distinct skill and nod to the classics that is rare in today’s art world.Jose Royo Paintings
