Meeting with Master sculptor Felix Roulin in Belgium

Félix Roulin was born in 1931 in Dinant, Belgium.

Student then professor at the School of Métiers d’Arts in Maredsous, professor of Metal Art and then professor of Sculpture in the High Institute of Architecture and Visual Art of “La Cambre” in Brussels from 1962 to 1996, in 1961 he was awarded the triennial Prize “Young Belgian Sculpture” and the “Rodin Museum Prize” at the Paris Biennial.

After 1961, he exhibited in different places in the world, notably at the Biennial of Paris in 1966, at the Biennial of Sao Paulo in 1967, at the Biennial of Middelheim in 1974, in Japan in 1993 and 1994.

The main one man show are in the “Galerie Anderson-Mayer” in Paris, in 1965, in the “Palais des Beaux-Arts” of Brussels in 1971, in the “Galerie Fred Lanzenberg” in Brussels in 1977, in the “Musée Saint-Georges” in Liège in 1979, to the “Galerie Protée” in Paris in 1986, to the “Espace-Partenaires” in Hamois in 1990, in Dinant in 1994, Louvain-la-Neuve in 95, 97, 99, Nivelles in 1997, in the “Prieuré d’Anseremme” (Dinant) in 1998, Freÿr, (near Dinant) in 2000, « Sculptures dans la Ville », été 2002, ville de Namur in 2002, at the “Galerie Cap d’Art” in Genval, in 2003, Galerie De Saedeleer, Bruxelles in 2003, Galerie LIEHRMANN, Liège in 2004, « Art & Bijoux », Galerie LIEHRMANN, Liège in 2004, Galerie „Espace Sculptural“, Ploegsteert in 2005, « ART IN THE PARK 2005» Société Berzel, 2005, Exposition dans la galerie du Théâtre Municipal, Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg in 2006, Foire de Karlsruhe, NL in 2006. Touring exhibition in 7 museums (Changshu, Ningbo, Fujian, Suzhou, Xian, ZhaoYuan and Shanghai) in China in 2008-2009.

Since 1980, he has a huge studio-foundry, in an old farm of the XVIIth century; in Biesmerée, Belgium.

Félix Roulin achieved sculptures in Public Places, in particular in Namur (1966), Ronquières (1967), Lessives (1972), the Gates of Grand Hornu (1973), metro station Thieffry in Brussels (1975), a sculpture wall in the Centre of Wallonie-Bruxelles in Paris (1979), “Le Monument aux Marcheurs” in Gerpinnes (1980), Justice and law, in Liège, “parc du Sart Tilman” (1981), the Gates of Présidence of Wallon Regional Executive in Namur (1991), “Espace Adolphe Sax” in Dinant (1994), “Le Parc avec les pyramides du CIGER” in Namur (1992), “Les bottes de Jean de T’Serclaes” in Tilly , “Place Pierre de Coubertin” in Louvain-la-Neuve (1996), Théâtre of Martyrs Place in Brussels (1998), Moncton (New Brunswig, Canada), (1999), “L’arche du Millénaire” in Andenne, (2001). In 1982, a very interesting sculpture which is both sculpture and silversmith has achieved : “la châsse de sainte Gertrude of Nivelles”.
