Angels, creatures between God and man, are another theme Dali was particularly fond of. Dali painted an angel on a canvas in 1977 and, in the 1980’s, gave it 3 dimensional forms whose unusual texture- a velvety brown/black bronze- underlines its elegant strength. The Surrealistic Angel has a surprising, almost feminine sensuality. This is a spellbinding sculpture in a very lyrical line. The drapery covering the bottom of the body is barely disguised representation of Dali’s own erotic desires.
