Richard MacDonald (born 1946) is an American contemporary figurative artist known for his realistic and athletic bronze sculptures depicting dancers, gymnasts and performers. MacDonald’s work portrays “the beauty of the human body and the spirit that drives it.” His 26 foot tall monument for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta entitled, “The Flair” is one of his most important monuments and one of the most visited in the state of Georgia. His work with the Royal Ballet of London has provided access to some of the premier dancers in the world and created some of the most indelible monuments to date, including his seminal “Nureyev Heroic”. Further, his collaboration with Guy Laliberté founder of Cirque du Soleil fame has provided an endless supply of inspiration from the athletes, jugglers, dancers and performers who grace the varied productions around the world.
