Over the past several months, we at RRFA have been honored to not only have met with Belgian master sculptor Félix Roulin in Belgium, but also to have placed many of his unique, monumental figurative bronzes with our collectors around the world, including the recent placements of “Inge Falls” (261cm x 40cm x 40cm), “Antigone” (205cm x 32cm x 32cm) and “Hades” (252cm x 35cm x 35cm) with a private client in Europe.
Roulin’s unique method of incorporating classical human figures into modern columnar shapes as if they are a forest of bodies has enraptured audiences throughout the world with placements in China, Greece, UK, Korea, Australia and the US. As most of his works are one-of-a-kind unique works in bronze, cor-ten steel, and aluminum, they are ideally suited for corporate spaces, private gardens, museums and residences, both indoors and outdoors.
Félix Roulin was born in 1931 in Dinant, Belgium.
Student then professor at the School of Métiers d’Arts in Maredsous, professor of Metal Art and then professor of Sculpture in the High Institute of Architecture and Visual Art of “La Cambre” in Brussels from 1962 to 1996, in 1961 he was awarded the triennial Prize “Young Belgian Sculpture” and the “Rodin Museum Prize” at the Paris Biennial.
After 1961, he exhibited in different places in the world, notably at the Biennial of Paris in 1966, at the Biennial of Sao Paulo in 1967, at the Biennial of Middelheim in 1974, in Japan in 1993 and 1994.
The main one man show are in the “Galerie Anderson-Mayer” in Paris, in 1965, in the “Palais des Beaux-Arts” of Brussels in 1971, in the “Galerie Fred Lanzenberg” in Brussels in 1977, in the “Musée Saint-Georges” in Liège in 1979, to the “Galerie Protée” in Paris in 1986, to the “Espace-Partenaires” in Hamois in 1990, in Dinant in 1994, Louvain-la-Neuve in 95, 97, 99, Nivelles in 1997, in the “Prieuré d’Anseremme” (Dinant) in 1998, Freÿr, (near Dinant) in 2000, « Sculptures dans la Ville », été 2002, ville de Namur in 2002, at the “Galerie Cap d’Art” in Genval, in 2003, Galerie De Saedeleer, Bruxelles in 2003, Galerie LIEHRMANN, Liège in 2004, « Art & Bijoux », Galerie LIEHRMANN, Liège in 2004, Galerie „Espace Sculptural“, Ploegsteert in 2005, « ART IN THE PARK 2005» Société inno.com Berzel, 2005, Exposition dans la galerie du Théâtre Municipal, Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg in 2006, Foire de Karlsruhe, NL in 2006. Since 1980, he has a huge studio-foundry, in an old farm of the XVIIth century; in Biesmerée, Belgium.
