Salvador Dalí’s “Portrait De Paul Eluard” sold for $21.5 million
Most expensive surrealist work ever sold at auction
Dali’s 1929 masterpiece sold to an anonymous bidder at a Sotheby’s auction in London in February 2011.
The final price tripled pre-auction expectations following a 10-way bidding war that lasted more than seven minutes.
The portrait portrays French poet Paul Eluard, an acquaintance of Dalí’s while he was living in Paris.
