Damien Hirst’s ‘Love’ Series of 2016 and takes its title from The Beatles’ track, “Big Love.” Featuring a vibrant ensemble of butterflies set against a rich crimson backdrop, this optimistic piece captures the essence of transformation.

Butterflies are a recurring theme throughout Hirst’s body of work, serving as symbols of evolution, transition, vitality, and mortality. The artist says, “I love butterflies because when they are dead they look alive.” Furthermore, they serve as a reflection on the distinctive essence of individuality inherent in human existence.
