SALVADOR DALI (Spanish, 1904-1989)

TITLE: Profil du Temps (Profile of Time), 1977–1984

MEDIUM: Bronze sculptures

EDITION: 350 + 35EA (Blue/green Patina)

SIZE: 20 in. (51 cm.)

DESCRIPTION: Excellent condition with original certification of authenticity from the publisher as descended from Dali. Is there a more quintessentially Dalinian image than the melting clock? Few icons exist in the Art world more potent than the clock slowly dripping over a tree branch. Dali described the perception of the impermanence of time as being inspired by a block of Camembert cheese slowly melting in the Catalan sun. This work also is a subtle self-portrait in that it simultaneously depicts Dali’s own face in the upper quadrant of the watch.

LITERATURE: Descharnes, Robert & Nicolas Catalogue Raisonne “Le Dur et le Mou”, pg. 238, Ref #615.
