Salvador Dali’s “Chess Set”

In 1968, The American Chess Foundation approached Master Dali with the idea of creating a chess set in honor of Dali’s friend and chess partner Marcel Duchamp, who died earlier in the same year. Dali designed the set using molds of his own fingers and those of his wife Gala, as well as salt-shakers from New York’s St. Regis Hotel.  This set, numbered was one of only approximately 11 sets
