Spanish painter Pablo Segarra Chías belongs to the long tradition of figurative artists working in Seville, a city whose artistic heritage stretches from the Baroque masters of the Spanish Golden Age to the luminous painters of the modern Andalusian school. Born in Seville in 1945, Chías developed a refined painting technique rooted in classical draftsmanship and a deep sensitivity to light, color, and atmosphere.

Over the course of his career, Chías became known for highly finished figurative paintings that combine academic precision with a romantic, almost cinematic sense of storytelling. His work frequently explores Orientalist themes, depicting figures adorned in richly textured fabrics, jewelry, and traditional garments, often set against softly atmospheric backgrounds. These compositions evoke the imagined world of classical literary tales such as One Thousand and One Nights, where narrative, mystery, and beauty intersect.

Executed with an exceptionally controlled brushwork and luminous glazing technique, Chías’ paintings display a level of finish that approaches the hyperreal while maintaining the warmth and vitality of traditional oil painting. His subjects—often solitary figures in moments of quiet contemplation—are rendered with sensitivity and psychological presence, while vibrant textiles and decorative elements introduce rhythmic color and visual richness.

During the final decades of the 20th century and the early years of the 21st, Chías’ work was exhibited primarily in Spain and the United Kingdom, where it found a strong audience among collectors of contemporary figurative painting. His paintings were shown through respected galleries including Durán in Madrid and Tallantyre Gallery in Northern England, both known for presenting accomplished representational painters.
Although deeply rooted in traditional technique, Chías’ work belongs to a broader revival of contemporary Spanish Impressionist and realist painting, a movement that includes artists such as José Royo, among others who have continued Spain’s longstanding commitment to virtuoso figurative art.

In recent years, the artist’s output has become extremely limited due to health issues, making his later works increasingly scarce. The paintings currently available were completed approximately five years ago and were intended to form part of what would have been his final solo exhibition.
Today, Pablo Segarra Chías’ paintings are appreciated for their technical mastery, romantic atmosphere, and timeless appeal, standing as part of the enduring tradition of Spanish figurative painting.
