Comic Kids Non-Profit Appears on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
In 2018, we had an idea born from our desire to give back to children in Miami’s underserved communities in the best way we knew how…art. We started teaching a weekly comic illustration class for the kids at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami and Thursdays quickly became our favorite day of the week. We chose comics because our co-founder, Reed, fell in love with art and reading as a child through Marvel Entertainment and DC Comics. Powerful messages of “misfits” overcoming odds helped him through his parent’s divorce and led him ultimately to a career in art. If he could do it, so could other kids. The messaging made us realize that teaching kids comics resonated with them. It needed to be bigger. From there, ComicKids.org was born.
@Comic_Kids_Org became a non-profit shortly before schools went online in March 2020. The pandemic showed the best way to reach vulnerable communities was through virtual learning. Since, we have taught thousands of children how to draw over 250 different comic and cartoon characters. Creative teaching allows our art program to help the kids who need it most.
This fall, we were contacted by The Kelly Clarkson Show regarding their “Rad Humans” segment, “Mom & Pops” who are weaving goodness into their communities. Comic Kids resonated with them.
It is our honor to announce Comic Kids is part of the @kellyclarksonshow for Monday January 30th on @NBC. For information on how to help with donations and program expansion, please CLICK HERE.
