INVADER, born Franck Slama in 1969, is a French contemporary artist renowned for his innovative fusion of digital aesthetics and urban art. Since the late 1990s, he has gained global recognition for his mosaic “Space Invaders,” inspired by the iconic 1978 arcade game. These pixelated figures, often installed covertly on city walls worldwide, recontextualize public spaces into urban playgrounds, blending nostalgia, technology, and artistic rebellion. To date, Invader has “invaded” over 80 cities across the globe, leaving behind a trail of art that blurs the boundaries between the virtual and the tangible.

A graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Invader began his career as a traditional artist before gravitating toward street art. His unique medium—hand-assembled ceramic tiles—was chosen for its durability and its pixelated appearance, reminiscent of early digital graphics. These mosaics often depict pop culture icons or abstract arrangements, resonating with themes of memory, identity, and the digitization of contemporary life.
