Jose ROYO Seaside Painting- At the Cove. now available from RRFA

The work depicts one of Royo’s most recognizable subjects: elegantly dressed female figures resting along a sunlit Mediterranean shoreline — a theme he has returned to repeatedly throughout his career.

Royo frequently paints secluded rocky coves along Spain’s eastern coast, particularly landscapes inspired by the Valencian, Mallorcan, and Alicante coastline, where luminous water meets warm stone formations. Variations of this same setting appear across multiple important compositions and graphic editions, including works often titled La Cala, Tarde en la Cala, Mediterráneo, or Día de Verano. These scenes became central to his international success in the 1990s–2000s, especially in the U.S. market, where collectors strongly associate Royo with this idyllic Mediterranean narrative.
