If you’ve been to a major Art Show like Art Miami or TEFAF Maastricht in the past 20 years, you’ve probably seen the works on American conceptual artist Mel Bochner (b. 1940). (Above, you see our own Kat Barrow-Horth with his “Blah Blah Blah” effectively summing up her mood!)
Bochner’s oversized and somewhat subversive, text-based painting have become magnets for selfies and conversations for decades.
Poking fun at the art establishment and harking back to other textual artists like Jasper Johns (b. 1930), Bochner’s thesaurus paintings consist of synonyms of phrases repeated in painterly capital letters. His monoprints are each unique, one-off works which combine varied techniques with thick, impastoed paint on handmade paper.
We’ve gained access to a cache of these fantastic works and been given an opportunity to bring them to our distinguished clientele. Among the works we have located is this massive “Top Dog”…
