In Two Nudes, Lichtenstein replaces the solitary figure found elsewhere in the series with an interplay between two women. Their overlapping forms, contrasting patterns and stylized gestures create a rhythmic composition that moves between representation and abstraction. The pairing also introduces an implied narrative, demonstrating Lichtenstein’s ability to suggest human interaction using the deliberately impersonal vocabulary of Pop.
