Warhol’s celebrated Myths series brought together ten archetypal figures drawn from American popular culture, folklore and fantasy. For Dracula, Warhol selected the unmistakable image of the legendary vampire, rendering the portrait in deep black punctuated by vivid pink linear accents.

Created in 1981, the work exemplifies Warhol’s ability to transform an already familiar cultural image into something distinctly his own. The predominantly black palette gives Dracula an unusually dramatic presence within the Myths portfolio and makes it particularly striking when installed.
